The Thirty Nights

Night 7: Interlude

In the middle of the night, after we were too exhausted from making love to continue any more, she asked me if I could get her something to eat, and I said I'd be delighted, since I was hungry too. I thought that I'd bring her chocolate, since that seemed appropriately sexy for the circumstances, but after I rooted through the kitchen, I realized that I didn't have anything chocolate in the house. I came back with the only really sweet thing I could find, a bowl of yogurt with berries in it, and I hoped that she wouldn't mind at all, climbing back under the sheets with her.

She said that was wonderful, and wanting to spoil her, I kissed her, then fed her a spoonful with a big strawberry in it without any further prompting, to which she seemed both enticed and amused. I smiled, and ate some myself, before going back to giving it to her.

"So how was Joan rewarded?" she asked, looking at me curiously. I smiled, and swallowed, thinking about what I would tell her tonight, not entirely prepared.

"Her reward would have to wait," I told her, unable to think of anything sexy on the spot, too exhausted to think of something good. Instead I told her that the next day, the princess was absent, busy with something all day, not returning until well after sunset.

She asked why she was busy, and I silenced her with a spoonful of fruit, stroking her beautiful, smooth cheek while I thought about it. When she had finished and was about to say something, I filled her mouth with more, and explained that the princess had been meeting with advisors all day, after finding out that the king of the planet had died.

"That's awful," she said with her mouthful, and I put my finger to her lips, telling her to shush. I told her, she thought it was awful too, as while she hated her father, she hated her brothers even more, and expected much petty fighting over who would become the heir. The king had at least been distant and allowed each of the siblings to rule their own provinces, but they were all ambitious, and she knew that status quo couldn't be kept.

O thought about it for a moment, trying to think of what would be dramatic; after a moment, I explained that sure enough, immediately after hearing word of the king's death, one of her brothers sent his troops to seize the capital of the eldest's province, and fighting had begun. I said that the princess had explained this to her pets, and while they were welcome to share her bed that night, she simply wasn't in the mood for anything.

"Then what?"

And after pausing, I remembered what I'd said about her on the second night, and told her that the princess lay awake in her bed, thinking and thinking, and eventually, the two pets curled up at the bottom of her bed-- at Mira's suggestion-- and licked her feet gently while she lay awake. And she relaxed, briefly showering the two girls with praise before becoming lost in her thoughts, trying to think of what she could do about her brothers.

"How sweet," she said, grinning mischeviously. I put the empty bowl down on my nightstand, and we kissed briefly. "So what did she think of?"

I reached over, turning off the lights. I told her, she didn't think of anything until the next morning.
